U.S. President Joe Biden called President-elect Donald Trump, who won the presidential election, on the 6th local time to congratulate him on his election victory.

During the call, President Biden expressed his willingness to work for a smooth transition of power and said let's work together for national unity, according to the full White House press corps.

He also invited Trump to meet at the White House and decided to coordinate the date between working-level officials.

Trump's side said Trump accepted President Biden's invitation to the White House and said the meeting would take place "soon."

Trump added that he was "very grateful" for Biden's congratulatory call.

President Biden also consoled Vice President Kamala Harris, a former Democratic candidate, in a statement.

"What the United States saw today was Kamala Harris, who I know and respect," President Biden said. "He was a great partner and public official, full of integrity, courage and character."

He also praised Harris for launching her campaign in "special circumstances" and "leading a possible historical campaign when there is a clear vision and strong moral compass for a country full of freer, more just and more opportunities."

President Biden will address the nation on the 7th local time to announce his position on the election results and transfer of power.
