Sergei Shoigu, secretary of Russia's National Security Council, will visit China to discuss strategic cooperation after former U.S. President Donald Trump's re-election.

"Secretary Shoigu will visit China from today (11th) to 15th to attend the 19th annual strategic security negotiations between China and Russia and the 9th meeting of the China-Russia Law Enforcement Security Cooperation Organization," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Zhen said in a regular briefing.

"The two countries maintain close communication on strategic and overall issues of common interest," he said, adding that he will also meet with Wang Yi, the party's central foreign affairs chief and foreign minister, and Chen Wenqing, the party's central political affairs chief.

Shoigu will also attend an air show in Zhuhai during his visit to China to watch the first overseas demonstration of Russia's fifth-generation fighter Su-57.

Meanwhile, Liu Jianchao, the head of the Chinese Communist Party's foreign liaison department (ministerial level), who has been constantly mentioned as China's next foreign minister, met with Dmitry Mironov, an aide to the Russian Kremlin, in Beijing today.
