[Witness] There was no flame. There was only a lot of smoke.... There are about three grandmothers and two young people here (I saw them being carried away)]
The fire broke out in the basement of a 16-story residential and commercial complex in Soongui-dong, Incheon, around 6:30 p.m. yesterday (11th).
The fire department, which issued the first stage of response in 30 minutes, mobilizing both the personnel and equipment of the competent fire department, completely extinguished the fire in three hours.
Twenty-one people were injured, including inhaling smoke from the fire, and three of them, who were seriously injured, were also known to be not life-threatening.
There were patients with mobility difficulties in the nursing home on the fourth floor of the building where the fire broke out, and as the smoke spread, the casualties increased.
In fact, the fire department explained that a total of 30 people were rescued in nursing homes alone.
People in the mart on the first floor of the building, the office on the second floor, and the sauna on the third floor were all evacuated, and the evacuation was not carried out because smoke did not rise further above the fifth floor of the building where the apartment was located.
The fire is believed to have started in the parking lot on the first basement floor.
[Kim Chang-hyun / Director of Preventive Safety Division, Michuhol Fire Station, Incheon: There were six cars (on the first basement floor) and three of them were damaged, two were burned down, one was counterclaimed.... It's a passenger car, an internal combustion engine.]
Fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
