The Board of Audit and Inspection evaluated that the effectiveness of the "Pyeongtaek-Osong 2 Double-Double Line" project, which will cost 3.2 trillion won, may not meet expectations.

The Board of Audit and Inspection released an audit report on the management of railway construction projects in the design and construction stages today (19th).

The Board of Audit and Inspection said that two out of 10 tracks are not being used because they were constructed without sufficient safety distance for emergency stops of trains, and pointed out that if these problems are not resolved, the increase in operations due to double-tracking could fall short of expectations.

In addition, in the case of the National Railroad Corporation, it was found that the contract was signed ignoring the question of the design of the track at Osong Station.

As a result, the Board of Audit and Inspection demanded attention from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Railroad Corporation, and notified them to come up with a fundamental problem-solving plan and re-design the wiring.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is pushing for a double-track project to double the track capacity of the Pyeongtaek-Osong section, which is shared by the Gyeongbu and Honam high-speed lines.
