Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin of Gyeonggi Province demanded that Gyeonggi Province come forward so that the southern Gyeonggi metropolitan railway project, jointly promoted by Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon and Hwaseong, can be reflected in the "5th National Railway Network Construction Plan."

Mayor Shin said at a press conference, "Even though Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon signed a win-win cooperation agreement with four cities in February last year, he did not recommend the southern Gyeonggi metropolitan railway project as a priority project to be reviewed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport."

"It is a measure that trampled on the wishes of 4.2 million citizens in four cities," he said. "The Gyeonggi provincial government should prepare measures such as changing the priority project of the proposal to be reviewed so that the railway project can be reflected and reviewed in the national railway network construction plan and submit it to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport."

The southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway is a 50.7km-long project that connects Seoul Sports Complex Station to Suseo Station and Seongnam Pangyo, Yongin Suji, Suwon Gwanggyo, and Hwaseong Bongdam.

The project has a cost-benefit ratio (B/C) of 1.2 as a result of the "Basic Initiative and Pre-validation Survey Service" released by four cities in May this year, and a B/C of 1.0 or higher is usually considered business-friendly.
