According to Kyodo News, China's Defense Minister Dongjun and Japan's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani pointed to each other's military action in a meeting organized on the occasion of the ASEAN Extended Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM-plus).
Nakatani called for a recurrence after a stern protest over Chinese military aircraft's invasion of Japanese airspace in August, and said the joint action of Chinese and Russian forces was also concerning.
Dong said he was concerned about Japan's military actions around the Senkaku (Chinese name Diaoyudao) archipelago and Taiwan, where the two countries are in territorial dispute.
However, the defense ministers of the two countries reportedly confirmed the proper operation of the hotline between the defense authorities and the dialogue policy to resume exchanges between the Chinese military and the Self-Defense Forces.
