While the ruling party is pushing for a special semiconductor law that excludes the application of semiconductor research and development personnel 52 hours a week, the Democratic Party of Korea is found to have requested data from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to understand the situation.

In a phone call with YTN, a key party official said that the current Labor Standards Act also has a system for extending working hours, and that they will specifically check what difficulties there are.

He then explained that the party has not confirmed that a clause that makes an exception of 52 hours a week should not be included in the Special Act on Semiconductors, adding that it will make a decision after receiving data from companies.

However, an official from the Small and Medium Venture Business Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, pointed out to YTN that it is inappropriate to include working hours in the semiconductor law as it can be raised in other industries.
