Prosecutors demanded a four-month prison term for a 30-year-old who left malicious comments against singer IU.

According to the Money Today report on the 26th, the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Chamber 16 (Chief Judge Lee Kyung-sun) held a final hearing on A, who was indicted on charges of insult on the 15th, and the prosecution asked the court to sentence A to four months in prison.

In April 2022, A was put on trial for posting four comments disparaging IU's costume and singing skills.

In response, A said, "I was just talking about simple symbols," and added, "I have a mental illness, so my sentence skills are lagging behind. We hope for relief," he said, asking for leniency.

In addition, A's lawyer said, "I expressed my opinion based on the facts," and argued, "There are expressions that are unpleasant or insulting, but they do not constitute a crime of insult."

The first trial sentence related to A is scheduled to be held on the 3rd of next month (December).

Earlier on the 11th, IU's agency EDAM Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as EDAM) said, "We have selected serious cases that meet criminal requirements among defamation, death threats and invasion of privacy, sexual harassment, distribution of pornographic material, deepfake (photo and video composite content using AI), and other illegal information distribution activities (hereinafter referred to as 'illegal acts')."

"As a result, there are a total of 180 defendants, and further complaints are ongoing," he said. "The rulings or dispositions so far have been fined (old-fashioned disposition), three conditional suspensions of prosecution for completing training, and one conditional suspension of prosecution for leading the probation office."
