Iran's state-run IRNA news agency said Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagai said at a briefing today (17th) that the agenda was to reopen the Iranian embassy in Syria.
Bagai said Israel's entry of troops into a buffer zone in Syria and airstrikes on the former Syrian government military facilities were not new and stressed that Iran was committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
It also noted that the emphasis in the "Astana Process," a framework for discussing solutions to Syria by Russia, Iran and Turkiye, should stop the conflict and facilitate dialogue between the Syrian government and its opponents.
The remarks appear to include acknowledging the Iranian-backed al-Assad regime's ouster by rebels and seeking to improve relations with the rebel-led transitional government.
