Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol said it is true that the recent emergency martial law and the presidential impeachment have weakened the momentum for communication between South Korea and the U.S. and that recovery will take time.

At a foreign press conference held with Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok to quell international unrest caused by the recent domestic situation, Minister Cho said it is true that communication with U.S. President-elect Trump has been hindered for the past two weeks.

At the same time, he acknowledged that the emergency martial law and impeachment have weakened the political power of communication between South Korea and the U.S. and that it takes time to restore the power.

As for the possibility of the second Trump administration's North Korea-US negotiations, Cho stressed, however, that we will preemptively prepare for the possibility of North Korea-US negotiations by preparing our response plans and roadmaps before the launch of the new administration in the United States.

At the same time, he said that the emergency martial law and impeachment would not affect Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Korea on the occasion of the APEC summit, which will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan next year.
