Lee Hwa-young's appeal trial sentenced today for "double bubble remittance to North Korea."

At 2 p.m. today (19th), the Suwon High Court will announce the appeal of Lee Hwa-young, a former vice governor of peace in Gyeonggi Province, who was put on trial for taking bribes from Ssangbangwool Group and conspiring to remit money to North Korea.

Former lieutenant governor Lee was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison in the first trial for receiving more than 300 million won in political funds from Ssangbangwool Group over four years from 2018 and conspiring to send $8 million in remittances to North Korea.

In Lee's second trial, the prosecution demanded 12 years in prison and a fine of 1 billion won for bribery and violation of the Political Fund Act, and three years in prison for violation of the Foreign Exchange Act.
