What charges is former Minister Kim facing?

[Reporter]
Yes, the prosecution's special investigation headquarters arrested and charged former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun today.

It was the first time among those under investigation in connection with the emergency martial law situation to be put on trial.

The special prosecution indicted former Minister Kim on charges of engaging in important missions and abusing his authority.

He played a key role in creating a civil war with President Yoon Suk Yeol, the leader of the civil war.

Specifically, he is accused of mobilizing the military and police to illegally enter the National Assembly and obstruct the decision to lift the emergency martial law.

The charges also included the arrest of National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik and the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties based on the unconstitutional decree.

Earlier, lawyers for former Minister Kim held a press conference and argued that martial law was an act of the president's rule and that former Minister Kim was not guilty.

Citing the previous Seoul High Court ruling, the prosecution stressed that the actions of former Minister Kim and others are a state constitutional disorder and a riot, which is a constituent requirement for rebellion under the criminal law.

In the announcement of the results of this investigation, a lot of information related to President Yoon's charges was disclosed?

[Reporter]
Yes, the prosecution released a 10-page reference regarding the arrest and prosecution of former Minister Kim Yong-hyun.

The data contains illegal orders from President Yoon Suk Yeol, who practiced martial law, as well as information related to prior martial law discussions.

Prosecutors said not only did President Yoon directly call former National Police Agency Commissioner Jo Ji-ho to arrest lawmakers,

explained that he ordered Jinwoo, the commander of the Capital Defense Command, to break the door and pull out the lawmakers even if they shot him.

It was also investigated that Hong Jang-won, the former first deputy chief of the National Intelligence Service, was instructed to catch and organize all major politicians and some journalists.

The prosecution also pointed out that President Yoon has discussed emergency martial law since at least March this year with former Minister Kim Yong-hyun and has made practical preparations since around November.

Accordingly, if the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit secures related prosecution data, the investigation into President Yoon's alleged rebellion is also expected to gain momentum.
