The Gwangju City Council issued a statement today saying, "81 of the 179 victims of the disaster are Gwangju citizens with addresses in Gwangju, and four are actually living in Gwangju," adding, "Gwangju, which has the most victims, should be included in the special disaster area."
The city council said, "We asked the government to include Gwangju earlier, but it was canceled, and only Muan-gun, where the accident occurred, was declared a special disaster area."
He added, "Gwangju must be considered so that there is no discrimination when the government supports the national budget for disaster relief and special grant tax payment."
It also urged the government to come up with measures and respond strongly to the recent circulation of mockery, fake news, conspiracy theories, and hate speech centered on online families.
