The bereaved families and civil society organizations of the Jecheon Sports Center fire in Chungcheongbuk-do and Osong Underpass disaster in Cheongju urged Chungcheongbuk-do and provincial councils to support victims of the disaster and come up with measures to prevent recurrence.

They held a press conference at the Chungbuk Provincial Government today (7th) and demanded the enactment of an ordinance to pay consolation money for victims of the Jecheon disaster, support for victims of the Osong disaster, and creation of a memorial space.

The support for the bereaved families of the Jecheon fire disaster was pushed for the enactment of an ordinance containing the basis for the payment of consolation money at the Chungbuk Provincial Council level, but it was rejected by the standing committee due to equity and other reasons.

In December 2017, 29 people were killed in the Jecheon Sports Center fire disaster, and in July 2023, 14 people were killed in the flooding of the Osong Gungpyeong 2 Underground Road.
