Ahead of the launch of the second Trump administration in the U.S., the government has decided to set up a pan-governmental TF to specifically promote cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. regarding the shipbuilding industry, which President-elect Trump has shown direct interest in.

It also decided to push ahead with the first goal of excluding South Korea from Trump's universal tariffs.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has announced a major work plan for 2025 that focuses on this.

The Ministry of Industry first decided to set up a pan-ministerial TF in relation to the shipbuilding industry and prepare a "Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Package" that covers the maintenance and repair of ships to the construction of new ships.

Regarding the trend of "strengthening protection trade" such as universal tariffs in the U.S., he said he will make efforts to make Korea an exception to tariff measures by explaining that much of the surplus to the U.S. is related to investment in the U.S.

Industry Minister Ahn Deok-geun, who is currently visiting the U.S., also met with Republican lawmakers and federal and state officials to express the need for an environment in which Korean companies that have invested heavily in the U.S. can do business stably.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry has decided to provide 252 trillion won in trade insurance, the largest ever this year, and increase the number of export exhibitions and consultations to 305 to maintain the export engine that hit an all-time high last year.
