The 6.6-magnitude earthquake off Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan, was likely an aftershock of a strong earthquake that occurred at a similar location last year.

The Japan Meteorological Administration concluded that it had nothing to do with the Nankai Sea Valley earthquake, but warned of further earthquakes.

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture shook the whole city hard.

The driver's seat was also shaken and the window door of the subway station window was shattered.

[Train driver] The whole history has been wobbling and creaking for a while.]

Rocks that collapsed on the hillside hit the road and ruptured water pipes.

Train services were temporarily suspended in some sections of Miyazaki Prefecture.

[Train passenger: I came to Miyazaki for the coming-of-age ceremony, but the train stopped when I tried to go back, so I was wondering what to do.]

There were some injuries, but there were no major casualties or building collapses.

Twenty centimeters high tsunamis were also observed in Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures.

It was concluded that the earthquake was not related to the Nankai Sea Valley earthquake, which has a magnitude of 8-9.

Instead, it is likely to be an aftershock of a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in a similar area in August last year.

The Japan Meteorological Administration stressed that it is not strange when a huge earthquake occurs in the region.

It also warned of the possibility of additional aftershocks of similar magnitude in the near future.

A year after the Great Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the Japanese archipelago is nervous about the possibility of another major earthquake.
