Bloomberg reported that Meta sent a memo to all employees saying it was "going to cut about 5% of its staff based on performance" and that it planned to hire a new workforce to fill the position this year.
"We've decided to raise performance management standards and get underperforming employees to leave the company faster," Zuckerberg said. "It's usually based on a year, but we're going to cut more jobs based on performance this time."
At the same time, he explained that the performance-based reduction is "to secure the strongest talent and to recruit new talent."
As of the third quarter of last year, Meta's total number of employees was 72,000, with about 3,600 likely to be affected by the job cuts.
Meta also added that employees eligible for the cuts will be notified by the 10th of next month and will receive retirement compensation such as those previously provided by the company.
This is the largest since restructuring 11,000 people in 2022 and 10 million in 2023, with Zuckerberg declaring 2023 a "year of efficiency."
Zuckerberg said this will be a "fierce year," focusing on the future of artificial intelligence, smart glasses and social media, suggesting it will be a tough year to face many challenges and challenges.
Meta's move comes as Zuckerberg has recently made operational changes to build closer ties with Trump ahead of the launch of Trump's second term, according to U.S. economic media CNBC.
Earlier on the 7th, Zuckerberg announced that he would abolish the third-party "fact check" that identifies "fake news" and identifies facts on his platform in the United States, and introduce a "community note" function used by Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter).
