The U.N. Security Council has revealed that Russia is executing Ukrainian prisoners and committing sexual torture.

The recent issue of two North Korean prisoners captured by Ukraine in Kursk, Russia, has also drawn attention.

This is the image of a Ukrainian soldier who was a Russian prisoner of war.

He is suffering from a disease in which parts of his body decay, and his skin is in contact with how much he has starved.

[Valerie Horishny / The Ukrainian who was a Russian prisoner of war: The prisoners of war had to endure torture in detention. This includes extreme and inhumane treatment, such as brutal beating.

The U.S. criticized Russia for forcing prisoners to live inhumane lives and committing sexual torture as well as executions.

[Dorothy Shay / Acting U.N. Ambassador to the United Nations] Russia has committed abuses and killings of Ukrainian prisoners of war, physically, psychologically and sexually.]

Rather, Russia countered by saying that Russian prisoners were tortured and executed.

[Dmitry Polyansky / Russian Ambassador to the United Nations] Russian prisoners captured by Ukrainian forces have been tortured or treated inhumanely. Fourteen people were sexually assaulted.

In the midst of this, the issue of two North Korean prisoners recently disclosed by Ukraine has also been on the cutting board.

[Kim Sang-jin / Deputy U.N. Ambassador: The two wounded North Korean soldiers say they did not even know they were put into the war against Ukraine]

As President Zelensky has proposed to Russia to exchange North Korean prisoners with their own prisoners of war, the issue is also expected to receive international attention.

The issue of dealing with North Korean prisoners of war is expected to be a difficult higher-order equation, as Ukraine and Russia, as well as South Korea and North Korea, are intertwined and various legal and procedural issues are at stake.
