U.S. Defense Secretary-designate Pete Hegseth says he will recheck the U.S. military posture deployed around the world, including in the Indo-Pacific region, if confirmed as secretary.

In a response to a confirmation hearing before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on 14th local time, Hegseth said he would conduct a global power posture assessment to review the strategies deployed at each command and whether existing missions are sufficient to meet U.S. defense strategic goals.

"Given the urgency of re-establishing China's quick military buildup and deterrence in relation to the U.S. military posture in the Indo-Pacific region, we need to speed up our efforts to strengthen our power posture and expand our operational capabilities in the Indo-Pacific," Hegseth said.

As the Trump administration's nominee for defense secretary mentions a review of U.S. military posture around the world, attention is being paid to whether there will be any changes in the size and level of U.S. troops deployed in the Indo-Pacific, including the U.S. Forces Korea.

Asked if he supports the U.S. and Japan's efforts to strengthen the U.S. military command and control structure in Japan, he added that developing joint war capabilities with Japan and improving interoperability will greatly strengthen our deterrence posture in the Indo-Pacific.
