North Jeolla Province Superintendent Seo Geoseok was sentenced to nullification of the election of the appellate court...a fine of 5 million won.

Seo Geo-seok, superintendent of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, who was acquitted in the first trial after being handed over to trial for promulgating false information during the superintendent's election process, received a fine of 5 million won in the appeal trial.

The first criminal department of the Gwangju High Court's Jeonju District Court handed down a fine of 5 million won in violation of the original court that acquitted Superintendent Seo at the appeal trial.

The court said, "The defendant claims to be a victim of unilateral assault on past allegations, but it is difficult to understand such statements given the statements of professors at the scene at the time and their subsequent actions."

He explained, "In summary, it is natural to think that the defendant first assaulted a fellow professor with his hand, and then the professor hit the defendant to assault both sides."

As Article 49 of the Education Autonomy Act applies mutatis mutandis to the Public Official Election Act, the election of the superintendent of education will be nullified when the ruling is confirmed.Superintendent of Education

Seo was charged with falsely answering the other candidate's question, "Did you ever assault Professor Lee Jae-jae while serving as president of Chonbuk National University?" at the 2022 Jeonbuk Superintendent of Education Election Debate, saying, "There is no such fact."
