The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a plan to build a national AI computing center at a meeting of ministers related to state affairs and economic affairs held today (22nd) that includes detailed business plans such as early service launch in November.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said it will first bring in foreign advanced GPUs such as Nvidia in the early stages of the national AI computing center service, and gradually increase the proportion of domestic AI semiconductors to fill 50% by 2030.
The national AI computing center plans to allow domestic universities, research institutes, small and medium-sized enterprises, and startups to use it when developing AI models and services, and to use it first in the government's AI transition (AX) business.
The government also decided to designate the AI sector as a national strategic technology under the Restriction of Special Taxation Act to attract private AI research and development and investment.
The tax credit rate applies to 30-40% of large and medium-sized companies and 40-50% of small and medium-sized companies in AI R&D, respectively, and the deduction rate for investment is 15-25% for large and medium-sized companies and 25-35% for small and medium-sized companies.
