The Seoul High Court overturned the first trial and ruled against the plaintiff today (22nd) in the second trial of a damage suit filed by 13 people, including the late Lee Ok-sun, a victim of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery, against Park Yoo-ha, an honorary professor at Sejong University.
The court said that the expressions in question should be evaluated as academic arguments or expressions of opinions, and even if the plaintiffs were somewhat emotionally affected, it was difficult to see them as infringement of personal rights. In 2014, Lee Ok-sun and others filed a compensation suit for 30 million won each, claiming that the grandmothers of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery were defamed by phrases such as "voluntary prostitutes."
Earlier, the first trial ruled that Professor Park partially won the plaintiff, asking him to compensate 10 million won each.
