The appeals trial of Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act will begin tomorrow.

The Seoul High Court will hold the first trial date of Lee's appeal trial at 3 p.m. tomorrow, who is suspected of violating the Public Official Election Act.

In 2021, when Lee was a Democratic presidential candidate, he was accused of publishing false information in connection with allegations of preferential changes to the use of the site of the Korea Food Research Institute in Baekhyun-dong with the late Kim Moon-ki, head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation's development department.

In November last year, the first trial found CEO Lee guilty of some of his remarks and sentenced him to one year in prison and two years of probation.

If the ruling of the first trial is confirmed, Lee will lose his parliamentary seat and be deprived of his right to run for the next presidential election for 10 years, making it impossible for him to run for the next presidential election.
