It was exceptionally hot this summer, and in August, each household's electricity bill increased by 13% from August last year.

If you look at households where electricity prices have risen from last year, the burden has increased by 17,000 won per household.

The use of various air conditioners has raised concerns about the electricity bill bomb this summer, but how much did the actual electricity bill come out?

[Reporter]
In August this year, the average electricity consumption of households nationwide was 363 kWh and the electricity bill was 64,000 won.

Compared to August last year, usage increased by 9%, rates increased by 13%, and 7,500 won.

Some say that it is not as extreme a rate bomb as you think compared to the ever-hot weather, but the increase in rates is even greater if you take into account the assumptions that the rates have increased.

Compared to the same period last year, 76% of households increased their rates in August this year, and these households alone showed an increase of about 17,000 won.

39 percent of households saw their rates rise by less than 10,000 won, followed by 28 percent who rose between 10,000 won and 30,000 won, and 1 percent of households rose by more than 100,000 won.

Due to the increase in single-person households, the pattern of electricity use has also changed, with 1% of households having the same electricity bill as in August last year, and 23% of households have decreased.

I heard that it is possible to pay in installments for families who are burdened with electricity bills.

Yes, the July-September rate, which is high in electricity usage, has more than doubled from the June rate, or the monthly rate is more than 100,000 won, the installment payment will be applied.

It is a system that supports 50% of the monthly electricity bill to be paid in installments for up to six months.

In addition, there is also a service that allows you to know in real time how much electricity you are using this month, and you can check it through KEPCO's website, KEPCO ON, or apartment wallpads.

KEPCO also explained that Korea's electricity prices are cheaper than other major countries, and compared to the same usage, Japan and France are more than twice as much as Korea, the United States is 2.5 times more than Germany.
