According to the legal community today (10th), the Uijeongbu District Court's Criminal Department 11 (Chief Judge Oh Chang-seop) sentenced a man in his 30s to 10 years in prison on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.
A was arrested and charged with attempting to rape a woman in her 20s by threatening her with a weapon at an apartment in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, at around 7 a.m. on October 29 last year.
The day before the incident, Mr. A provided a room in his residence to Mr. B through a shared accommodation platform. Mr. B entered the room thinking that his family lived in an apartment. B, who belatedly realized that A lived alone, locked the door and stayed overnight.
Mr. A, who forcibly attacked Mr. B heading to the bathroom the next day, tried to rape him by taking out a weapon in the kitchen, but failed as Mr. B resisted.
The court pointed out, "The defendant assaulted the victim's face while attempting to rape the victim who came to his house as a guest, causing injury," and explained the reason for the judgment in consideration of the fact that the victim suffered considerable physical and mental pain.
