One out of three elderly households in Korea appeared to be elderly households living alone.

According to the government's 2023 Survey of Seniors, 32.8% of the total are elderly households living alone, up 13 percentage points from three years ago.

On the other hand, the number of elderly households living with their children plunged 9.8 percentage points to 10.3%, the lowest ever.

At the same time, the proportion of elderly people engaged in economic activities reached 39%, the highest since the start of the survey in 2008.

Regarding the inheritance of property, the number of respondents who said they would use it for themselves and their spouses increased by 6.8 percentage points to 24.2%,
6.5% of respondents said they would give all or a lot to the eldest son
, with single-digit responses for the first time.

The survey of the elderly conducted every three years from 2008 was conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and Gallup Korea surveyed 78 elderly people from September to November last year.
