Former Seoul Mayor Kim Kwang-ho will be sentenced to the first trial tomorrow.

Kim Kwang-ho, former chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, who is accused of poor response during the Itaewon disaster, will be sentenced tomorrow (17th).

The Seoul Western District Court will hold a sentencing date for three officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, including former Commissioner Kim, who will be charged with professional negligence and death at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Earlier, the prosecution demanded a five-year prison term for former Commissioner Kim, who has responsibility and authority in a crowded situation where crowds are concentrated, growing angry because he did not recognize the danger.

Ryu Mi-jin, former head of personnel education department at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, who was put on trial on the same charges, was sentenced to three years in prison.Former Commissioner

Kim and others have pleaded not guilty, saying that it was difficult to predict the crush just with the information that 100,000 people would gather in Itaewon, adding that police forces were deployed accordingly due to greater concerns over crimes such as drugs.

Earlier at the end of last month, former Yongsan Police Chief Lee Im-jae, who is accused of the same charges, was sentenced to three years in prison, and Yongsan-gu District Commissioner Park Hee-young was acquitted.

Since yesterday (15th), the bereaved families of the Itaewon disaster have been holding relay picketing in front of the court, demanding strict punishment from former Commissioner Kim.
