During the parliamentary audit of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee in Gyeongsangbuk-do, there was a heated debate over the installation of a statue of former President Park Chung-hee.

Rep. Mo Kyung-jong of the Democratic Party of Korea said that he spent 400 million won to build a statue of former President Park in Gyeongju Bomun Complex last year, and pointed out that it is regrettable because he thought that there was nothing else to put forward in Gyeongju.

Chung Chun-saeng, a lawmaker of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, said that basic organizations are holding meetings and promoting fundraising activities to build statues, and that there are suspicions of forced fundraising.

Rep. Lee Sang-sik of the Democratic Party of Korea argued that no one was harmed by former President Kim Dae Jung, but many were damaged by former President Park Chung-hee, and it is not too late to do so after people heal later.

Yoon Gun-young, a lawmaker of the same party, pointed out that when installing the statue of Park Chung-hee, citizens should be informed of the installation of the statue, but they did not announce it separately in the process of installing it in Gyeongju Bomun Complex.

In response, Lee Chul-woo, governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, said that Korea is stingy in evaluating characters and that it is necessary to overestimate Gongeun Engineering School and Department.

Regarding the point of fundraising for basic organizations, he added that the construction of the statue is being carried out by the promotion committee and there are regional committees to raise money, which has nothing to do with Gyeongsangbuk-do.
