Designated as a tropical ant/water needle, ecosystem disturbance creature

Tropical blue ants and water needles have been newly designated as ecosystem disturbances.

The Ministry of Environment announced today that it will newly designate and manage two species of ecosystem-disrupting organisms and 150 species in the inflow state.

Ecosystem-disrupting organisms are considered to be highly likely to disturb or disrupt the balance of the ecosystem, so they need to control, remove, and manage the population.

Tropical blue ants are called "crazy ants" due to their fast and irregular movements and are characterized by good adaptability, and in Madagascar, Africa, they compete with bees for food, threatening the survival of bees.

It is also known that it is difficult to control due to its fast reproduction speed, and it spreads pathogenic microorganisms to humans.

Water needles are yellow-flowering plants that live in freshwater environments such as rivers and ponds, and their leaves and stems cover the water's surface, threatening fish survival and preventing sediment from escaping, deteriorating water quality.

In Korea, habitats are being confirmed in Suwon, Anseong, Pyeongtaek, Osan, Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, and Changnyeong, Gyeongnam.
