All senior hospitals nationwide have decided to participate in the government-promoted restructuring project.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said that as three more hospitals, including Samsung Seoul Hospital, were selected as participating organizations, all 47 senior general hospitals nationwide were eligible for the restructuring support project.

Advanced general hospitals will reduce 3,625 general beds, excluding intensive care units and emergency beds, to strengthen their medical capabilities centered on severe, emergency, and rare diseases in the future.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said it will come up with a plan to create a medical ecosystem where secondary and primary medical institutions can focus on their original functions and cooperate with each other, starting with a higher general hospital.

In addition, he explained that for stable structural transformation, the current classification system based on severe patients is simply undergoing the introduction of new classification criteria to reflect patient conditions such as age and underlying diseases.
