Industrial Bank of Korea's Union Strikes Alone for the First Time in History... "55% of Branch Employees Participate"

The labor union of IBK Industrial Bank of Korea has launched its first-ever solo strike due to wage discrimination.

IBK provisionally tallied that 55% of its branch employees were on strike as of 10 a.m. today.

Considering that there are 5,900 union members working at IBK branches, it is estimated that 3,200 people are currently on strike.

The union argues that IBK is 30% less paid than employees of commercial banks that provide the same labor because it is a public institution.

He added that due to the government's overall labor cost restrictions, each person is not receiving overtime pay of up to 6 million won.

He stressed that he had negotiated with the management since September to resolve the issue, but it broke down and a strike was inevitable.

The Industrial Bank of Korea explained that it has distributed executive-level non-union members to its branches in preparation for work disruptions, and that the non-face-to-face system through the app is also operating smoothly, so there are no major problems in using the branches.
