According to the data analyzed by the Korea Employment Information Service, 57 local governments were classified as "high-risk areas for extinction" as of March last year, accounting for a quarter of 228 cities and counties nationwide.
[Fact-tracking] In the report, it was confirmed that local destruction is underway due to a decrease in population, such as young people leaving due to a decrease in jobs due to abandoned mines, or elementary schools closing due to lack of students.
Experts pointed out that beyond improving settlement conditions and creating public infrastructure, an effective balanced development policy should be prepared that considers relations and strengths between regions.
The YTN investigative report program [Fact Tracking], which airs on the night of January 1st, the New Year's Day, examines the state of the region on the verge of extinction and focuses on solutions such as efficient distribution of local extinction response funds.
