A court ruled that it was justified to discipline a lawyer who assaulted a reporter for writing an article critical of the high-ranking government official's criminal investigation agency.

The Seoul Administrative Court ruled against the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by lawyer A against the Justice Ministry's Lawyers Disciplinary Committee to cancel the decision to dismiss the objection.

While drinking with a daily reporter in 2021, A assaulted him, saying that the reporter wrote an article in a critical tone to the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit.

A was found to have assaulted a reporter after hearing negative stories about him while talking to an acquaintance who was a prosecutor at the time of the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit on the phone.

The Korean Bar Association's Lawyers Disciplinary Committee suspended Mr. A for six months the following year, saying he violated his duty to maintain dignity.

Mr. A filed an objection with the Justice Ministry's Lawyers Disciplinary Committee against the disciplinary action, but it was rejected, and he filed a lawsuit soon after.
