2025 is the Year of the Blue Snake...Worms Pick Endangered Wild Life in January

Marking the Year of the Blue Snake in 2025, the Ministry of Environment selected the worm as an endangered wild creature in January.

The worm is the largest reptile living in Korea, and it is one of 214 species designated as endangered wild life grade II, whose population is declining significantly.

Lungworms live in forests, rivers, and coastal areas, but poaching has been prevalent due to the destruction of existing habitats and the wrong bosing culture, putting them at risk of extinction.

Capturing, collecting, damaging, or killing worms without permission will result in imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of more than 3 million won.
