The Korean Medical Association's Election Commission announced that 58,634 electors will elect the 43rd chairman by electronic voting for three days from today to the 4th.
There are five candidates running in the by-election, including Kim Taek-woo, president of the National Association of Pharmacists, Kang Hee-kyung, a professor at Seoul National University Medical School, Joo Su-ho, former chairman of the association, Lee Dong-wook, chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Association, and Choi Anna, a planning director.
Former chairman Lim Hyun-taek, who took office in May last year, was impeached in six months amid controversy over communication.
The new chairman will take office after accepting applications for regular admission for the 2025 school year, and attention is being paid to whether the government will resume discussions on the number of medical schools and the return of majors next year.
