In Japan, where cyberattacks targeted large airlines and banks at the end of last year, this time a telecommunications company was attacked at the beginning of the year.

NTT DoCoMo said this morning that some features of its search sites and smartphone payment services have been failing since 5:30 a.m.

The company explained that distributed denial of service, or cyberattacks called DDoS, appears to be the cause of the failure.

However, NTT DoCoMo's mobile phone communication services are not affected, it added.

In Japan, since the 26th of last month, Japan Airlines, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Lisona Bank, and Mizuho Bank have reportedly been hit by cyberattacks in succession.

The Japanese government is pushing for the introduction of an "active cyber defense" to block any signs of cyberattacks in advance.
