"Sea level rises 1m in 2070...Inundated 13 ports around the world, including Gwangyang"

According to a study, sea levels are on the verge of rising by 1m by 2070 due to climate change, flooding 13 major ports around the world, including Gwangyang, South Korea.

According to the British daily Guardian on the 4th local time, the International Ice Area Climate Initiative (ICCI) analyzed this in the recently released "2024 Ice Area Report".

The ICCI predicted that a 1m rise in sea levels has become inevitable this century, and that it could become a reality as early as 2070 if the rate of glacial collapse does not slow down.

He also warned that sea levels could rise to 3 meters as early as the early 2100s.

Based on this analysis, 13 of the 15 ports where tankers travel the most in the world, including Gwangyang, are vulnerable to rising sea levels.

If these ports are located in low-lying areas and sea levels rise by 1m, various infrastructures such as docks, oil storage facilities, and oil refineries could be destroyed.

The ICCI noted that as of 2023, about 20% of global crude oil transactions are made through these 13 ports.
