According to the results of a survey by the Presidents of 151 member universities released by the Korean Council of Private University Presidents, 53.3 percent said they plan to raise college tuition this year.
In addition, 42.2% said they were discussing whether to raise it, while 4.4% said they would freeze tuition.
The private university presidents' council said 76% of the presidents cited "increase in tuition" as the number one issue for universities, and argued that the government's tuition freeze over the past 16 years has caused serious problems in improving the university education environment.
Earlier in 2022, six of the private universities raised tuition, 17 in 23, and 26 last year.
