The prosecution has re-requested an arrest warrant for Justice Jeon Sung-bae, who is suspected of violating the Political Fund Act.

On the 19th of last month, the warrant was rejected by the court on the grounds that the date, amount, and method of receiving the money were not clearly confirmed.

The prosecution requested the warrant again after supplementing the reasons for dismissing the first arrest warrant, specifying the amount of illegal political funds Jeon received at about 150 million won after a reinforcement investigation.

It added that facts about the reason for the arrest, such as the destruction of evidence and the fear of fleeing, were also confirmed.

During the 2018 local elections, Jeon was booked on charges of receiving money and valuables, saying he would help a prospective candidate who ran in the Liberty Korea Party's internal election ahead of the Yeongcheon mayoral election in North Gyeongsang Province.

Jeon testified to the prosecution that he received money in the name of "prayer money" and returned some of it when the candidate was unsuccessful, and the prosecution also booked the candidate who handed over the money to Jeon.

The prosecution also investigated Yoon Han-hong, an aide to the Liberty Korea Party's lawmaker's office at the time of allegations that he introduced Jeon to the candidate, as a reference.

The second hearing on Jeon will be held at 2 p.m. the day after tomorrow (9th) at the Seoul Southern District Court.

If Jeon's whereabouts are secured, attention is also being paid to the possibility that the prosecution's investigation that confiscated the so-called "lawyers phone" will expand beyond the 2018 local elections to the entire political world.
