A government official said the meeting of the nuclear consultation group was held in the presence of Cho Chang-rae, the head of the Pentagon's defense policy office, and Kara Abercrombie, the acting deputy secretary of policy at the Pentagon.
The Nuclear Consultative Group is a consultative body for strengthening the implementation power of "extended deterrence," which was agreed upon during President Yoon Suk Yeol's state visit in April 2023.
The fourth nuclear consultation group meeting is expected to be the last meeting of the Biden administration, whose term ends on the 20th.
The Nuclear Consultative Group was officially launched with its first meeting in Seoul in July 2023 and the fourth meeting was scheduled to be held in Washington on December 4 last year, but it was postponed due to martial law.
The postponement of the meeting with the South Korean delegation in the U.S. at the time was interpreted as reflecting the Biden administration's negative stance on emergency martial law.
