As the number of single-person households increases, interest in using space is growing.
Korean researchers have developed robot furniture and obots that can maximize space utilization by freely adjusting the size.
Reporter Lim Null-sol reports.

A transparent robot is approaching.
When a user grabs a drink from the kitchen to watch TV and moves to the living room, they move to help.
This robot is Obot, a robot furniture that automatically transforms into the shape you need by grasping user intentions.
Obots are added or enlarged according to the situation as the number of users increases.
Robotic furniture that turns freely turns into an easy-to-storage form when not in use, increasing the efficiency of space.
It folds and unfolds easily like an umbrella and changes shape, and it can be changed into a desk, chair, as well as a storage box and a cart. The robot furniture obot
learns your furniture usage data and customizes the service you want.
[Kang Da-hyun / Podak researcher at KIST Intelligence and Interaction Research Center: (Obot) applied Hoverman structure. And when I expanded it, I borrowed the umbrella structure because both of them should be able to put things on top when folded.]
Regular furniture is difficult to change its shape and once it is in place, it is not easy to move, so space utilization is greatly reduced.
On the other hand, Obot can be customized and transformed into a variety of furniture types, allowing not only single-person households but also elderly people living alone or infants in need of physical support.
[Lim Yoon-seop / Lead researcher at KIST Intelligence and Interaction Research Center: We plan to develop into a robot that can understand user intentions and provide services accordingly, including artificial intelligence technology, robot technology, and voice recognition technology.]
The research team plans to strengthen safety and increase efficiency by increasing durability, such as changing Obot's material into wood or glass.
