The head of the court administration announces his position on the storming of the court by protesters protesting the issuance of an arrest warrant for Yoon Suk Yeol's president.

Let's go to the scene.

[Cheon Dae-yeop / Chief of Court Administration of the Supreme Court]
I checked the site today. It's a very miserable feeling. It would have been possible to check the on-site situation that was 10 times and 20 times more severe than what I saw on TV. In my 30 years as a judge, this situation was unpredictable and has never happened.

This is a total fraud against our rule of law and a serious felony even in criminal terms. I sincerely want to ask the people to understand the situation in which public opinion is divided a lot from emergency martial law to impeachment proceedings, but I sincerely ask you to understand that we can protect our country only when everything is resolved within the judicial process set by the Constitution.

Today, I also heard that employees and police officers in our court were injured. My deepest sympathy goes out to them. I'm sure many of you are suffering and are shocked by this incident.Ma is not eager for this whole situation to return to normal soon enough so that our rule of law can work solidly.

As I said, I can tell you that the vandalism inside the court is much more disastrous than what I thought it would be on TV. I heard that several police officers were injured, and I deeply comforted them, and fortunately, the casualties of court staff have not been confirmed yet.

And I can tell you that we have checked the traces of several protesters entering not only the reception site on the first floor but also the upstairs floors. We believe that our judiciary should ensure that under no circumstances are inconvenient for our people to restore their rights through trial work and also to enjoy the benefits of the rule of law.

The situation I'm looking around now is much more severe than I thought, but we're checking whether tomorrow's work can proceed normally even if we stay up all night from the afternoon. So, I think I can tell you that I will do my best not to cause as much inconvenience to the people as possible. It is as you think that the rule of law can only function properly if judges can conduct trials independently without risk to their personal safety.

I think we can tell you that we are taking various measures to prevent the personal safety of the judges who are worried. I think we can tell you that we continue to contact each other. So far, I think so. We plan to take another look at the afternoon situation and check whether there is a need for normal work or additional measures tomorrow, and then come up with security measures and security plans. Thank you.

At first, we thought only the first floor reception floor had such damage, but we confirmed that not only the first floor but also the upper floor had such damage. However, I think there will be a detailed confirmation of this part later.
