Japan, Australia Confirm Quad Cooperation Ahead of Trump's inauguration

Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wing in Washington, D.C., and decided to push for multi-layered cooperation with the U.S., Japan, Australia, and India's security consultative body Quad even after the Trump administration was launched.

The ministers of the two countries confirmed that quad cooperation plays an important role in ensuring security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Foreign Minister Iwaya stressed the importance of quad cooperation, saying it is necessary for Japan and Australia to play a leading role in realizing the free open Indo-Pacific.

Later, he also met with Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar to discuss cooperation in various fields, including security, diplomacy and human exchanges.

Foreign Minister Iwaya is visiting the United States to attend President-elect Trump's inauguration on the 20th local time.
