Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun asked the court to grant bail, saying that declaring emergency martial law is the president's own authority and cannot be a crime of rebellion.

The Seoul Central District Court today (21st) held a bail hearing date for former Minister Kim, who was indicted on charges of engaging in important civil war missions.

Former Minister Kim was not present, but Kim argued that the seriousness of the crime could not be recognized, saying that the president exercised constitutional authority over the act of declaring emergency martial law.

He explained that all investigations have been conducted and that there is no fear of running away or eliminating evidence because former Minister Kim's residence is clear.

On the other hand, the prosecution countered that the charges of engaging in important missions of rebellion were not only a serious crime, but that the court recognized the need for arrest, and that the bail request should be dismissed because related cases such as the investigation of President Yoon are underway.

The court said it would end the interrogation date and decide within a week whether to cite bail and notify it.
