Kang Dong-seok, former CEO of SPL, was sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial in connection with an accident in which a worker was caught in a machine and killed at a baking factory of SPC affiliate SPL.

The Suwon District Court's Pyeongtaek Branch today (21st) sentenced former CEO Kang, who was handed over to trial on charges of violating the Serious Disaster Punishment Act, to one year in prison and two years of probation.

The court ruled that former CEO Kang, as a safety management manager and management manager, did not take all safety measures to prevent similar accidents, such as not covering the safety of the mixer in which the death accident occurred.

However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, considering that he had only been inaugurated as a representative for about four months at the time of the accident and that he had made efforts to prevent a recurrence after the accident.

In a final hearing in November last year, the prosecution demanded a three-year prison term for former representative Kang. After the sentence, former representative Kang

reportedly left the court without responding to reporters asking about his intention to apologize to the victim's bereaved family.

On October 15, 2022, a female worker in her 20s died after being caught in a sandwich sauce machine at an SPL baking factory in Pyeongtaek City.In this regard, former representative Kang

was put on trial in August last year on charges of violating the Serious Accident Punishment Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, and professional negligence.
