Prosecutors recovered 152.6 billion won in criminal proceeds last year...60.3 billion year-on-year increase

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said the total return of criminal proceeds from the prosecution last year was 152.6 billion won, up 60.3 billion won from the previous year.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, the only prosecutor's office in the country to set up a criminal profit tracking team last year, recovered 55.1 billion won, an increase of 42.4 billion won from the previous year.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office recovered 12.3 billion won in criminal proceeds from Lee Hee-jin, who was known as a "Cheongdam-dong stock rich," last year, and received 13 billion won in additional fines from the main culprit who committed investment fraud worth 200 billion won to the elderly and North Korean defectors.

An official from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said, "The proceeds of crime recovered last year are equivalent to the size of this year's special expenses and special expenses reduced by the National Assembly," and explained that more criminal proceeds could be recovered if the budget needed for work is allocated.
